In the court of King Henry VIII, nothing is free--
and love comes at the highest price of all.
When Kitty Tylney's best friend, Catherine Howard, worms her way into King Henry VIII's heart and brings Kitty to court, she's thrust into a world filled with fabulous gowns, sparkling jewels, and elegant parties. No longer stuck in Cat's shadow, Kitty's now caught between two men--the object of her affection and the object of her desire. But court is also full of secrets, lies, and sordid affairs, and as Kitty witnesses Cat's meteoric rise and fall as queen, she must figure out how to keep being a good friend when the price of telling the truth could literally be her head.
My Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
My review: :I found this book surprisingly good, I didn't expect to like it so much like I did.
This book is separated into four sections, starting with 1539, the year before Catherine Howard is made queen. The finally ending in the year 1542, when she got executed.
I really enjoyed it, but there was a thing I wished happened. I wish the author would of shown how Catherine Howard acted towards Henry children. Other than that I loved it.
The reason why this wasn't a five star was Kitty; I didn't like her too much and wished she grew a backbone because she let Cat walked all over her. She knows she may die because of Cat, but it felt like she didn't care, she was going to remain loyal to a woman that pretty much used her through out her life. hen William (Kitty's love interest) offers to help her escape and she doesn't take, gets mad, then moans about. I was rooting for them, but she let her love for Cat get in the way. It was so infuriating to read about her relationship with Cat. Kitty didn't care about herself, only Cat, who knew about a lot of things, but Kitty doesn't do anything about it.
In the end I really loved it and would recommend to those who love historical fiction that somewhat sticks to what actually happened.
