This is the story how I got so engrossed into hockey.
It was late spring, around late May, early June. At the time I was a big wrestling, not a huge one that I would buy the PPV's, but just watching them on Monday's and Friday's. My favorite wrestler was CM Punk, a Chicago native, who's a big Chicago Blackhawks fan. I remember it so vividly. It was game 6 in the Stanley Cup Final between the Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins, I was scrolling throw Twitter when Punk said that if we weren't watching the game then we should. Yes I know that I really didn't have to listen to him, but he was my favorite and I really wanted to, so I did. At first I couldn't get into it, but as the period went on I got more into it and the harder I rooted for the Blackhawks.
After the Stanley Cup Playoffs were over, I really didn't know what to do, I didn't know anyone that was into hockey, so I was just going to have to wait until the season started. Then football happened. I compeletly forgot about hockey until January when I went scrolling on Pinterest looking at hot athletes when I discovered a post from Tumblr and I fell down the rabbit hole of hockey. I got sucked into it, at the time the Blackhawks was my team, I was that type of fan that only rooted for the good team. Since I live in Southern New Jersey, I only get to watch the Philadelphia Flyers and I didn't want to like them. I heard how bad they were and I didn't want any part of that, so I didn't really watch them or cared about them. Then before the Olympics I decided that I was going to watch a Flyers game, I think they were playing the Blackhawks that's why. The first ten minutes I was rooting for the Blackhawks, then all of a sudden I was cheering for the Flyers. They became my team so quickly and it felt natural and not forced.
As of right now I'm a huge Flyers fan, this past winter I got my first sweater/jersey of Jakub Voracek; I also have two shirsey's and a jacket. I no longer like the Blackhawks which is kind of sad, it wasn't the players themselves that made me stop liking them, it wasn't even the fact that I liked the Flyers more, it was because of some of there fans. There comes a time when they can be down right rude and hypocrites of what they were preaching that it irked me so bad that every time I see the team I get upset. But that's another story for another day.
Another team did feel the spot of the Blackhawks and it's a weird one. It's the Boston Bruins, I feel like the Bruins/Flyers fans have much in common with other teams and fans not liking us because of who we are. I had started following more Bruins fans on Tumblr and I end up falling in love with this weird and adorable team.
So I would like to thank CM Punk for getting me into this hockey fandom and Tumblr for making it worst, that I cry over hockey players with their kids and pets.
